NEW YORK – On August 19 at 4:00 PM ET, The ASCO Cancer Foundation® (TACF) and ASCO rang the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Closing Bell to commemorate the Foundation’s 10th anniversary and to raise awareness of the need for cancer research funding, improving cancer prevention and patient care through education, and giving patients the best, most reliable cancer information.
Olympic swimmer and testicular cancer survivor, Eric Shanteau, who won a gold, silver and bronze medal at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome last month, rang the NYSE Closing Bell alongside his physician and TACF board member, Lawrence H. Einhorn, MD (Einhorn also led the team of oncologists who treated Lance Armstrong). Accompanying them were TACF Chairman, Joseph S. Bailes, MD; ASCO President Douglas W. Blayney, MD; ASCO President-elect, George W. Sledge, MD; ASCO Immediate Past-President, Richard L. Schilsky, MD; ASCO CEO Allen S. Lichter, MD and TACF Executive Director, Nancy R. Daly.
