These grants are given to community-based practices to support their efforts to enhance their clinical trials program. Areas of improvement are based on the American Society of Clinical Oncology Statement on Minimum Standards and Exemplary Attributes of Clinical Trial Sites (Journal of Clinical Oncology, May 20 2008).

Grant details:

• The 2011 grant period will begin on July 1, 2011, and concludes June 30, 2012.
• Grant proposals will be entertained up to $30,000, including no more than $26,000 for grant support, $1,500 for travel to the ASCO Annual Meeting, and $2,500 for overhead costs.
• The grant funds will be directed to the community practice, not to an individual.
• Grant recipients will be acknowledged at the 2011 ASCO's Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.
• Progress reports are required at six and twelve months with a final report due at eighteen months.

The Community Oncology Research Grant is open to all eligible, community-based practices.

CORG eligibility is based on the following criteria:

• Practices must have at least one member of ASCO involved in the research program
• Practices must have at least one member of an ASCO State/Regional Affiliate Program involved in the research program
• Practices must meet basic standards for a quality clinical trials site (based on Good Clinical Practice standards, the accepted international ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting, recording, and reporting trials)
• Practices must be community-based, with high-quality audit reports and investigators in good standing 

The Community Oncology Research Grant was awarded to the following practices in 2010:

• Kellogg Cancer Centers (Evanston, IL)
• Missouri Baptist Medical Center (St. Louis, MO)
• Saint Francis Medical Center/Cancer Treatment Center (Grand Island, NE)
