The ASCO Cancer Foundation and ASCO continually pursue opportunities to apply the clinical knowledge and expertise of ASCO and its members to today’s global needs in cancer care. ASCO currently has a number of innovative new programs in development.
- International Cancer Corps: This outreach program would enable ASCO volunteers to spend two to six weeks with a medical institution in a developing country, focusing on training, shared knowledge, practice guidelines and the circumstances that facilitate or constrain cancer care in the location. The ASCO volunteers would be fully supported with orientation, field assistance, program monitoring and evaluation. Upon return, the ASCO volunteers and host institution would continue their partnership. Multiple ASCO resources and products would be shared through this partnership to sustain capacity building.
- Capacity Building for Partner Societies: This educational and outreach program would help non-US oncology societies to develop their organizational capacity in areas such as governance, fundraising, membership services and meeting planning.
- Clinical Research Education: Complementing the success of ASCO’s existing clinical research workshops, this educational program would adapt ASCO clinical research training content to a regional context, working with national and regional oncology societies and national regulatory bodies. The target audience would have limited prior experience conducting clinical research.
