CME Meetings, Symposia & Workshops

Disseminating knowledge and information about the latest research in cancer care and prevention
The ASCO Cancer Foundation provides funding to support numerous scientific and educational meetings, symposia and workshops hosted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Annual Meeting:
May 30-June 3, 2008, Chicago, Illinois
The ASCO Annual Meeting is considered the premier educational and scientific event in the oncology community. Attracting more than 30,000 attendees from all over the world, the meeting is designed to advance the education of physicians and other professionals caring for patients with cancer, to support the development of clinical cancer researchers, and to facilitate the delivery of high-quality health care to people living with cancer.

Best of ASCO Meetings:
June 27-28, 2008, Boston, Massachusetts
The Best of ASCO meetings feature highlights from ASCO’s Annual Meeting in several 1 1/2 day programs hosted in other regions of the world. This educational initiative enables ASCO to provide increased access to the most important new developments in cancer research from the world’s premier oncology meeting.

The Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers Symposium:
January 15-17, 2009, San Francisco, California
This multidisciplinary symposium brings together nearly 2,000 medical experts to learn about the newest strategies in prevention, screening and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. This symposium offers educational sessions and abstract presentations focused on each type of GI cancer including esophagus, stomach, hepatobiliary, pancreas, small bowel, colon and rectum.

The Genitourinary (GU) Cancers Symposium:
February 26-28, 2009, Orlando, Florida
Expanding on The Prostate Cancer Symposium, this symposium offers educational sessions and abstract presentations focused on all types of GU cancers including: cancer of the testis, bladder, kidney and prostate. Also multidisciplinary in nature, the meeting attracts nearly 2,000 medical experts who come to learn about the latest developments in prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of these cancers.

The Breast Cancer Symposium:
September 5-7, 2008, Washington, District of Columbia
Featuring theme-based scientific and educational sessions on the latest multidisciplinary research in breast cancer, this symposium provides important in-depth discussions of the latest knowledge and advances in the care and treatment of people living with breast cancer.

The ASCO-Children's Oncology Group (COG) Symposium:
The ASCO/COG Symposium serves to address the educational needs of health-care providers who care for children with cancer. This symposium provides a forum for these care providers to discuss issues unique to pediatric oncology, clinical trials, and the communication of trial results to patients and their families.

Clinical Trials Workshop:
The Clinical Trials Workshop helps cancer doctors in private practice to evaluate, integrate and conduct clinical trials in their practice. The program provides practical resources and tools specific to the private practice business model not often included in fellowship training programs or continuing educational materials.

2008 ASCO-NCI-EORTC Annual Meeting on Molecular Markers in Cancer:
October 29-November 1, 2008, Hollywood, Florida
These bi-annual meetings are designed to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer and to improve international scientific collaboration between Europe and the United States in the rapidly advancing field of molecular cancer markers. These markers are becoming increasingly important in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer as well as the development of new cancer therapies. Hosted by EORTC, the National Cancer Institute, and ASCO, this meeting brings together clinicians, pathologists, laboratory scientists, statisticians, and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry as well as regulatory agencies to maximize the opportunity for interaction and discussion. The meeting focuses on contemporary issues in molecular pathology, assay development, clinical trial design and the identification and application of new markers.

Joint AACR/ASCO Workshop: Methods in Clinical Cancer Research:
This workshop is an intensive academic program that teaches the essentials of clinical trial design to clinical oncology fellows and junior faculty. The workshop is one of the most important educational undertakings for ASCO and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). This workshop demonstrates the societies' joint commitment to developing successive generations of well-trained, experienced researchers whose research will lead to improvements in the care and treatment of people living with cancer.

Help The ASCO Cancer Foundation continue to provide high-quality, educational programs so physicians are equipped with the latest knowledge and information to provide the best care and treatment for their patients.
